We've been learning about how celebrate the New Year around the world.  This week, we focused on Chinese New Year.

We traveled around the world on Friday!  We started in the USA and tasted black eyed peas, since many families here eat them on New Year's Day.  We traveled to Chile in Mr. Childress's class, where we ate a bite of lentils and put coins in our shoes for good luck.  In Spain (Mrs. Reuther's class), the kids ate grapes as they rang in the new year.  We learned about Rosh Hashanah and ate apples and honey for a sweet year.  We ate noodles for a long life in Japan (Mrs. Goff's room).  We ended our trip in China, where we ate oranges for good luck.  We also got red envelopes, which is what kids in China get for the New Year.

At the end of the day, we had a parade with the other kindergarten classes.  We led the way!  The kids worked on a dragon all week, and it looked great.

The other grades came to the hallway to watch!  We had a great time.  Enjoy the long weekend!  See you back at school on Wednesday.
